Barentu — Reports indicated that the Agriculture Ministry's branch in Gash-Barka region has awarded bicycles and wheelbarrows to exemplary clubs and individuals regarding afforestation.
Mr. Tekeste Kiflemariam, head of forestry and wildlife in the branch office, explained that the initiative was taken in line with the efforts being made towards promoting environmental stability. He further disclosed that the contribution of School Green Clubs, interested individuals, Associations and government bodies in this regard has witnessed positive impact, and said that the award is expected to give added impetus to the spirit of enthusiasm thereof.
Accordingly, a total of 13 schools have demonstrated bold commitment in connection with environment through launching active Green Clubs, in addition to churches and mosques.
Mr. Tekeste called on the remaining schools and institutions in the region to emulate the initiative of such organization.
Representatives of the clubs called on the branch office to ensure ample supply of pesticides and medicines, besides varieties of tree seedlings that are adaptive to the environmental setting with a view to registering sustainable impact in connection with the venture.
