Zimbabwe: Ovidy Karuru Speaks On Fallout With Oh Leuven Coach

Belgium-based Zimbabwe international midfielder Ovidy Karuru, has for the first time spoken about his frosty relationship with his OH Leuven coach Ronny Van Geneugden.

Karuru fell out with Geneugden at the end of last season after making 21 appearances, but has not seen action this term.

The 24-year-old came close to joining Nyasha Mushekwi at KV Oostende in August, as his handlers felt it was no longer conducive for him to continue at Leuven.

But the move could not materialise despite the player having agreed on personal terms.

"It was actually not a clash as people want to portray it. The coach was just not honest with me," said Karuru.

"He told me to play for the reserves and I told him 'No', because I know I can play in the team. I know I can play in that team from January to December if he is fair. But he is not."

Leuven are struggling in their Belgian Jupiler League campaign and are third from bottom with just a point better than Oostende, who are at the relegation zone cut off point.

The former Masvingo United and Gunners midfielder does not see a bright future at Stadion Den Dreef and wants out of the club.

"My wish is to move away from the team because I do not see myself progressing if I stay," he said.

"The coach is the boss and he chooses the team, so there is nothing I can do about it. I am happy with the way I am training and I am very proud of myself because I feel that I am doing enough but maybe the boss has something against me.

"It is all in God's hands. I believe everything happens for a reason and soon I will be happy again. I am not worried but time will tell and I will keep on training hard like I am doing."

His agent Ralph Nkomo stated that the feud between Nkomo and Geneugden was fuelled by differences in personalities but the two have since sorted out their issues.

He said a number of clubs have inquired about Karuru.

"They have sorted out their issues and I am sure he will start playing soon. I understand he is training well. But I am trying to find him a new club to join in January and there have been interest from certain clubs," said Nkomo.

Karuru joined Leuven in June last season after a three-season stint at French side US Boulogne.
