Ethiopia: ERCA Collects Br25.3 Billion Revenue in First Quarter

The Ethiopian Revenues and Customs Authority (ERCA) said it has collected 25.3 billion Birr revenue from various income titles during the first quarter of the current fiscal year. Education and communication director with the Authority, Efrem Mekonen told the press on Saturday that the sum was obtained from domestic tax, foreign trade and lottery sales.

Efrem said the revenue which is lower than the target (26.3 billion Birr) by one billion Birr exceeds that of same period last year by three billion Birr. Owing to awareness raising activities and regulatory measures taken by the Authority, the number of taxpayers who use sales registration machines is on the rise, he said.

Nearly 5,000 taxpayers have started to use sales registration machines during the reported period. The Authority has also collected finger prints of close to 70,000 taxpayers during the reported period. ERCA expects to collect a total of 116 billion Birr revenue during the current budget year.
