No way: A blockade where sugarcane farmers started a fire on the Enoosaen-Awendo road in Trans Mara on Saturday Operations at the Transmara Sugar Company have come to a standstill after farmers stopped supplying sugarcane to the miller on Saturday.
Trans Mara Outgrowers Association chairman Thomas Nesiria had on Friday informed the management that they will not supply sugarcane from Saturday morning. The farmers accused the company management of failing to address grievances they had raised. They protested the lowering of sugarcane price per tonne from Sh3,800 to Sh3,500.
Trans Mara West police boss Alfred Muthua and his AP counterpart Joseph Bartore led officers to the factory and escorted tractors to the sugarcane farms. The farmers however blocked the Enoosaen- Awendo road vowing not to allow any tractor carrying sugarcane into the factory.
