AN administration police officer is fighting for his life at the Kilifi District Hospital after he was attacked by suspected members of Mombasa Republican Council. Amir Hassan was injured after armed men believed to be MRC invaded Palakumi AP lines in Ganze, Kilifi county on Friday night.
The group, which ambushed the officers at the station, was armed with bows and arrows. Ganze police boss Jacob Kanaki said the group used poisoned arrows.
"We strongly believe that these are members of MRC due to the nature of their attack. They shot the officer below the shoulder and when the other officers responded, they vanished into the dark," Kanaki said.
He said some of the attackers escaped with gunshot wounds and urged the public to report any suspicious person with injuries. Hassan was on patrol when the attack occurred.
"We could not establish the number of the attackers because it was dark. They carried their attack very fast," Hassan said. Hassan said there are reports that MRC could be receiving training in a forest in the area.
He said more officers have been deployed to track down the attackers. It is the second time the station is being attacked this year.
