Owerri — Police have raided another baby factory in Obigbo, Rivers State and arrested six teenage girls aged between 12 and 15 years. Also arrested is a fake herbalist, Mrs. Rose Nwachukwu Azubuike, owner of the Rose Natural Clinic located in Obigbo in Rivers State, a house wife, Mrs. Apkuchukwu Uzoamaka, the mother of a one week baby.
Parading the pregnant teenagers, the herbalist and the mother of the baby before newsmen yesterday at the Police Command headquarters in Owerri, the Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Musa Kastina Muhammed, said the only connection with Imo State is that they were caught in transit from Rivers State to Imo State in their escape without realizing that they were being monitored.
He said the acclaimed mother of the week old baby, Mrs.Uzoamak, was caught with the baby, adding the owner of the baby factory, Azubuike, was arrested inside the baby factory in Rivers State alongside six pregnant teenagers.
According to him, the teenagers were there being nurtured by the woman awaiting delivery of a baby which would have been given out to buyers. The commissioner while thanking the public for the quick response to his appeal on information, warned that Imo would never be a breeding ground for this kind of atrocity.
The fake herbalist said Rose Azubike accepted that she had been in the business where she makes women pregnant through herbs. She said many women usually approached her for babies, and she quickly arranged for babies from among the teenage girls after payment ranging from N60,000.
