Tunis — A cabinet meeting was held on Tuesday, under the Prime Minister Ali Laarayedh chairmanship, recommended to set up a municipality in each chief town of delegation, which means 19 new municipalities in 2014.
The Cabinet decided also to create additional municipalities in some large urban areas, according to the number of inhabitants and available own resources, a communiqué of the Prime Ministry reads.
The Cabinet also decided to entrust a ministerial commission with classifying the municipalities to be created, according to criteria taking into account improvement of the quality of services, the available own resources and the number of inhabitants.
This commission which will be chaired by the Interior Ministry and includes representatives of concerned ministries will present the outcome of its works during a ministerial working session.
The creation of new municipalities aims to generalise the municipal system, reinforce decentralisation and improve services, in line with citizens' expectations.
