Kenya: Farmers Want NCPD to Buy Their Produce

FARMERS in North Rift have asked the government to release Sh3 billion to the National Cereals and Produce Board to buy their maize. Kenya Farmers Association director Kipkorir Menjo said the board has not openned depots in the region. He said prices of maize have dropped from Sh3,000 to less than Sh2,000 per 90 kilogram bag.

Menjo said farmers have been forced to sell their produce at throw away prices. "The delayed opening of the board's depots is hurting farmers who have been forced to sell their produce to middlemen," he said.
