RESIDENTS of Kwale county have been urged to take up the "Nyumba Kum" initiative to fight insecurity. County commissioner Evans Achoki and Msambweni police boss Jack Ekakoro said the iniative will boost security in the area. "It is important to know your neighbor and what he does to curb rising crime," Achoki said. They were speaking to the press separately in their offices yesterday.
Achoki said every village will have a village chairperson who will have security strategies for his or her village. Ekakoro urged locals to volunteer information to police." We can only deal with armed gangs if we work closely with the police on security matters," he said.
Ekakoro said the armed gang that has been terrorizing business people in the area can be dealt with easily if locals inform police of their whereabouts. 'These people we live with them they are people known to residents they should give us information secretly and we arrest them because they are not doing good for this area. That why we insist the nyumba kumi initiative is very important fir everyone,' he noted.
