Dodoma — GOVERNMENT is confident that three marine vessels promised by President Jakaya Kikwete will definitely operate in lakes--Victoria, Tanganyika and Nyasa.
Deputy minister for Transport Dr Charles Tizeba told the National Assembly that construction of ships has already started.
Dr Tizeba said that wananchi should not be worried for once the president has made a promise, it turns into an order and implementation is obligatory.
Mr Tizeba was responding to Ms Leticia Nyerere (Special Seats- Chadema) who wanted to know when the vessels promised by the president would be handed over to the respective authorities.
The minister said that repairs of MVs Liemba, Butiama and Victoria have already began and government expects to spend over 6bn/-.
Earlier on, Dr Tizeba said government has completed the process of looking for consultant engineer and contractor for the rehabilitation of Mwanza and Kemondo ports and the contract is expected to be signed this month.
Dr Charles was responding to the basic question raised by Conchesta Rwamlaza (Special Seats- CCM) who wanted to when government would repair Mwanza and Kemondo ports.
