Lilongwe — Former Justice Minister Ralph Kasambara has been arrested by Police and is remanded at Kanengo Police Station in Lilongwe. Reports reaching Malawi News Agency (Mana) indicate that he has been arrested on attempted murder charges.

There has been a lot of speculation in the social and online media that Kasambara's dropping from the recent cabinet reshuffle by President Joyce Banda had to do with his involvement in the shooting of Budget Director Paul Mphwiyo who is recuperating in South Africa.

Since the shooting of Mphwiyo, there has been a lot of revealtions regarding suspected theft and fraud involving huge government funds that has led to a number of arrests.

Meanwhile, Malawi's major international donors including the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF), yesterday announced suspension of budgetary support due to the cashgate scandal.
