The resettlement of squatters in Elgeyo Marakwet has stalled again due to differences between the victims and elected leaders from the region. Representatives of the squatters, led by Kilimo Chelenga, said the leaders and members of the provincial administration have included names of their relatives and friends in the list of beneficiaries.
The national government has set aside Sh1.2 billion for resettling 3,000 families of squatters in the county. Each family is to receive Sh400,000 to buy land.
