Nigeria: Chevron Donates Hospital, Other Facilities to Host Communities

Owerri — As part of efforts to improve the living standard of its host communities, Chevron Nigeria Limited has donated an ultra-modern cottage hospital at Izombe and has also embarked on educational and electrification projects to improve the living standard of people in its areas of operation.

The projects built by Jisike Regional Development Foundation under the Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMoU) signed between NNPC/Chevron Joint Venture and the affected communities are the Umunwama Cottage Hospital, two electricity projects - installation of two 500 KVA Transformers and HT and LT distribution lines, toilet facility and Educational support projects in Umunwama Girls' Secondary School as well as training of 20 youths at the National Metallurgical Training Institute Onitsha, Anambra State. The JRDF, which was founded in 2005 to represent Obeabo and Umunwama autonomous communities had entered into an agreement and signed the first GMOU with Chevron Nigeria Ltd, the Imo State government in 2005 to identify a framework within which Chevron, JRDF, Imo state government and other stakeholders can operate a climate of mutual understanding.
