Malawi: 53 Year Old Mangochi Man Dies in Sleep

Mangochi — A 53 year old man identified as Assam Chiwaya who was working as a security guard at Life Estate in Mangochi has died in his sleep after knocking off from work, police have confirmed. Mangochi Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector Rodrick Maida said the deceased died on November 8, 2013 in the morning after he had knocked off from work around 10 o'clock.

Maida said the deceased took a mat and slept under a tree where he never woke up again. "At around 2 p.m. fellow workers discovered that their colleague had died in his sleep," Maida said. According to Maida, a postmortem conducted at Muli bwanji Private Hospital indicated that death was due to kidney failure.

Chiwaya hailed from Nakapa village in the area of Traditional Authority Bwananyambi in the district.
