THE government has allowed Airtel Kenya and Access Kenya another three years to comply with regulatory requirement for a 20 per cent local shareholding. Director general of Communications Commission of Kenya Francis Wangusi acknowledged yesterday the ministry has notified it of the waiver to the two companies.
"The ministry has informed us about the extension...but it's not bound to give us more details," he said. "The law gives the ministry the leeway to give operators three years to comply with the 20 per cent ownership rule."
