Kenya: Pertinent Questions Abound Over Keter's Claim

16 November 2013

Senator Charles Keter has kicked off a political storm with a sensational demand. He wants government officers, alleged by Deputy President William Ruto's lawyers at the ICC to have coached witnesses to frame their client to resign from government. He has gone ahead and vowed to force them out of government if they don't. On top of that list is the powerful Ministry of Interior Principal Secretary, Mutea Iringo. True to character, politicians from both sides of the political divide have jumped on the bandwagon, expectedly generating unnecessary heat and not the much needed light.

Well, may be, I am also climbing on the bandwagon, but with a different intention. I seek to raise some pertinent questions that may likely be missed out in the ensuing cacophony of political sentiments. First, let me urge Senator Keter to keep talking. The country needs him to say more than he has said so far. He needs to tell the country everything he knows about Ruto's and indeed, President Uhuru Kenyatta's cases at the ICC. He should name the government officers who "fixed" them. But more importantly, Keter should tell the country when he got to know that the 10 individuals are responsible for the president's and his deputy's trials at the ICC.
