Ethiopia: Govt Earmarks Br50 Million to Repatriate Citizens From Saudi

The Government of Ethiopia has earmarked 50 million Birr to facilitate the repatriation and integration of citizens from Saudi Arabia. Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr. Tedros Adhanom on Thursday visited the first group of returnees at UNHCR office in Addis Ababa where they are staying provisionally.

Dr. Tedros on the occasion said the government has earmarked an initial sum of 50 million Birr to facilitate the repatriation process. He expressed government's commitment to make every effort to create employment opportunities for the repatriates.

The returnees for their part thanked the government and international organizations for their kindness and support.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 506 Ethiopians were brought back home until Thursday evening and efforts were intensified to reunite the rest with their families as soon as possible.

A national task force drawn from federal ministries and regional bureaus has been set up as part of the efforts.
