Nigeria: Victims of Sokoto Demolition Groan Over Delayed Compensation

Sokoto — Exclusion of Isa LGA of Sokoto State in the payment of compensation before demolition of people whose houses were affected by the exercise initiated to construct access roads in the area, has not only created hardships for families, but is raising various layers of accusations against the council chairman, Weekly Trust can report. Perhaps, a timely payment of compensation to victims of the on-going demolition in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State would have prevented the headache of many victims. Weekly Trust learnt that compensation has been delayed and most of them are now faced with the embarrassment of living in borrowed shelters at the moment.

It was gathered that the demolition was done to pave way for the construction of five kilometers of asphalted road at N232 million. The construction work started over three weeks ago and it has affected scores of people who are now groaning in hardship occasioned by it.
