Tanzania: Call to Control Importation of Poultry

POULTRY keepers in the country have appealed to the government to control importation of poultry and its products in order to protect the market for local farmers. They have also asked the government to conduct inspections at supermarkets and hotels to ensure that they do not import poultry to enable locals supply the same and increase their incomes.

Speaking in separate occasions on behalf of poultry farmers in the country, Nelyson Shima, Stephano Masengo and Gaudensia Sindhabaha, said importation of poultry was responsible for stifling local production. According to them, importation of poultry and its products are among challenges facing them.
