Gambia: Turkey to Double Scholarship Package for Gambia in 2014

The government of Turkey plans to double the higher education scholarship package it offers to Gambian students by next year, its ambassador in Banjul disclosed Tuesday.

Speaking during his meeting with the vice president and Women's Affairs minister at State House, Ambassador Ergin Soner also informed that his government through the Turkish Cooperation and Development Agency (TCDA) will procure and install electronic equipment for the video and translation systems of The Gambia's new National Assembly building at the end of the year. Commenting on Banjul-Ankara cooperation, the diplomat said the two countries have many areas of development that can be exploited together. "The Gambia and Turkey share many things in common, including social structures, historical ties and tradition," he said.
