Kenya: Land Theft Blamed for Slow Growth in Murang'a

Residents have blamed land grabbing for the slow development of Kenol town in Murang'a county. The Star has found out that the growth of the town has been hampered by lack of physical planning, leading to the construction of buildings along access roads. It has also been revealed that a number of constructions have been stopped by the Kenya National Highways Authority and the National Environment Management Authority.

This follows public complaints that the buildings block rain water drainages. Some of the residential buildings risk being pulled down as they were constructed on road reserves. Yesterday, Kenol Market Traders Association chairman David Mwaura Ngugi said there is need to re-plan the market as many public utility plots have been grabbed.
