Johannesburg — The International Relations Department on Saturday helped well-known actress Rosie Motene to return to South Africa after she was allegedly assaulted in Botswana, SABC radio reported.

Motene wrote on social network Facebook that she had been beaten up and needed help from the SA High Commission in Botswana.

International Relations Department spokesman Clayson Monyela told the SABC that Motene had been assisted and was on her way home.

"She was well enough to travel, we arranged that she travel back to South Africa this afternoon [Saturday]."

There were no further details regarding the alleged assault.

Later on Saturday Motene thanked the SA High Commission and the department through Twitter for their help.

"Thank you for your support, I'm home now! @proudlysa @sahighcommission and friends. Time to heal," she wrote.
