East Africa: Fahmi, EU Official Probe Political Developments in Horn of Africa, Sudan

Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmi's meeting on Monday 2/12/2013 with European Union Special Representative for the Horn of Africa Alexander Rondos covered the latest political and security developments in the Horn of Africa particularly in Somalia and ways to support the current government, a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ambassador Badr Abdel Ati said.

The meeting also covered ongoing negotiations between Sudan and South Sudan to settle all outstanding issues and the latest developments in Darfur, he added.

Fahmi stressed the escalating needs of Nile Basin nation for energy, water and development, a thing which requires cooperation among them in this respect without harming the interests of any party, the spokesman said.

Fahmi also asserted the profound and active role played by Egypt in Africa within the framework of the Strategic Partnership for Africa which covers all geographical regions of the continent and Egypt's readiness to cooperate with the European Union in this regard to serve development in Africa, the spokesman added.
