Tunisia: HRW Delegation Presents NCA President With Report On Situation of Detainees in Tunisia

Bardo — President of the National Constituent Assembly (NCA) Mustapha Ben Jaafar received, on Wednesday, Director of Human Rights Watch (HRW) Tunis office Amna Guellali and Deputy Director of HRW Middle East and North Africa Division Eric Goldstein.

Guellali and Goldstein submitted to Mr. Ben Jaafar HRW report on the situation of Human rights in Tunisia, notably regarding detainees involved in common law offences and terrorism cases.

At the end of the meeting, Amna Guellali said HRW delegation had presented the NCA President with the recommendations included in the organisation's report and stressed the assembly's role in securing their implementation in order to preserve the rights of detainees and Human rights in general.

She stressed Ben Jaafar's willingness to introduce necessary reforms and meet requirements of transparency during detention and investigation.

The report entitled "Gaps of the System: Situation of Detainees in Tunisia" will be presented on Thursday at a press conference.
