Egypt: UN Urges Holding Conference On Middle East Nuclear-Free Region

Egyptian envoy to the United Nations in New York Ambassador Moataz Ahmadein Khalil said that the UN General Assembly adopted two draft resolutions sponsored by Egypt.

The first motion is to establish a nuclear weapons free zone in the Middle East and the second concerns the risks of nuclear proliferation in the region, Khalil said.

The Arab group has supported an initiative floated by Egypt's foreign minister raised in September to the General Assembly over establishing a mass destruction weapon-free zone in the Middle East.

The adoption of the resolutions reflects the international community's consensus on this issue, Khalil noted.
