Uganda: Fashion - Lace Up Your Wardrobe

Lace is the one fabric that is a fashion high every year but it seems the season or this year is on a different high. It has been taken from the wedding gown and turned into a daily fashion luxury. It is dressy and at the same time retro. Last Friday alone, I counted about ten girls wearing lace tops, dresses or skirts in under three hours. When I was driving to town at about 8pm, the lace had increased in number on the streets. It is a fashion must-have for a night out on the town.

Despite the fact that lace has been done over and over, it always remains fresh to the eye. The colours have been taken beyond black and white and now we have lace in maroon, yellow, green. Some are mixing classic and modern silhouettes by designing lace with the African fabric dresses or blouses.
