The Egyptian authorities fired heavy teargas on Tuesday as ongoing clashes near Cairo University intensified, an Aswat Masriya eyewitness said.
Security forces are centered outside Nahda Square, located close to Cairo University, the center of clashes between protesters and the police.
The students threw stones and empty bottles at the security forces, who responded by firing teargas. They chanted against the Interior Ministry and demanded that its leaders be put on trial for "oppressing student protesters."
Live footage showed protesters running back and forth as the security forces chased them on CBC satellite channel.
