Zanzibar — GEWE's campaign to raise awareness to overcome gender violence among women has yielded good results. Under the funding from DANIDA, the Gender Equality and Women Empowerment (GEWE) project has helped many women in rural women to gain knowledge about their rights and how to minimise violence.
Although gender violence activists say that economical, sexual, beating, family abandonment, little participation in leadership roles and use of abusive language against women persists, the situation is better than in the past.
