Zambia: UTH Crisis - Only One Operating Theatre Working

Only one operating theatre is operational at the University Teaching Hospital due to inadequate man power.

The other theatres have been closed following the reduced number of nurses due to dismissals that followed the 10 day strike action.

Doctors are said to be constrained as the mostly available nurses to render hand are students who cannot be counted on in very delicate operations.

The Doctors are said to be only attending to emergencies.

Government fired over 200 nurses after the strike with more dismissals still being effected.

The nurses had been demanding the rectifying of the salary structure and also a 100% increment as promised by the government.
