Rwanda: Kwita Izina Finalist for UN Innovation Award

The annual Kwita Izina gorilla naming festival is among the finalists for the UN World Tourism Organization's (UNWTO) Ulysses Award for Innovation in Public Policy and Governance, the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) has announced.

The gorilla naming ceremony took place for the first time in 2005 and was named Kwita Izina after the Rwandan baby naming tradition in which the entire community is involved. The event aims at raising awareness for the conservation of mountain gorillas as well as empowering communities surrounding Volcanoes National Park.
