Two MPs from Nyeri county have blamed Transition Authority over the ongoing health workers strike. The MPs led by Mathira MP Peter Weru said the Authority slept on the job and failed Kenyans. Weru who was speaking at his Mathira constituency on Saturday said that there were no proper and clear structures to devolve health unlike Agriculture sector.
"The Transition Authority has failed us. We have bitten more than we can chew. We need to put up structures on the place. The devolution should not be in a hurry," Weru said.
He said there is need to capacity build and put up proper structures in place before devolving the health sector. At the same time, Mukurwe-ini MP Kabando Wa Kabando said there were many sectors which were devolved more than some county governments can handle.
Speaking at his Mukurwe-ini constituency on Saturday, Kabando said it is not clear on health sector as it is clear on Agriculture. "There are no clear capabilities in health sector as compared to others. It is not well devolved. It seems there is crisis," said Kabando.
He said some counties are very weak and need to be improved. "Some counties have no mechanisms, structures and clear rules and regulations of health fraternity," he added.
