Kenya: Three, Not 10, Killed in Mariakani Accident

TRAFFIC police in Mombasa have confirmed that three people died at the Saturday Mariakani accident involving a church bus and a fuel tanker. Coast traffic boss Martin Kariuki said one of the passengers who was thought dead is in a very critical condition.

"After we brought the bodies to Mombasa, the Aga Khan hospital found out that one youth was still alive but very critical and was taken to ICU," he told the Star on the phone yesterday.

Kariuki said reports by St John's Ambulance that at least10 people had died were wrong. According to St John's, four people died at the scene of the accident while six others died at Coast Provincial General Hospital. He asked the organisation to withdraw the statement as it can be alarming.
