Egypt: President to Be Tried Under Egypt's New Constitution - NCW Chairperson

Chairperson of the National Council for Women Mervat Tallawy has said that Egypt's new constitution clearly defines mechanisms to try the president of the country.

It is the first time an article is there to try the president, prime minister and members of the government on charges of violating the constitution, treason or any other crime, Tallawy said Saturday.

The new charter also entails that public financial disclosures of presidents and prime ministers are published in the official newspaper, she added.

The president, under the new constitution, should call for a referendum on issues of supreme state interests, Tallawy further said.
