Gambia: Authorities Poised to Harness Job Creation Via Aquaculture

The Ministries of Fisheries and Water Resources and Youth and Sports are poised to harness job creation for the teeming mass of Gambian youths through aquaculture. As part of a partnership reached between the two ministries in 2011, an aquaculture project that will establish 10 fish ponds at the Nyani Berreh Farm in West Coast Region (WCR) is currently being implemented. The project is expected to provide alternative sources of jobs for young people, especially those who cannot fish at sea, thus enhancing poverty eradication efforts.

The project was recently visited by the ministers of Fisheries and Water Resources and Youth and Sports, Mass Axi Gye and Alieu K. Jammeh respectively.
