Kenya: Milk Lorry Blows Up in Mai Mahiu

A milk lorry blew up in flames on the Mai-Mahiu road on Sunday night. The lorry was headed to Nairobi from Nakuru. The driver and his conductor escaped unhurt. However, the cabin was completely burnt.

The incident caused a major traffic snarl-up on the section. Efforts to put out the fire were fruitless due to lack of water. "The lorry developed mechanical problems, which led to the fire. No one was injured though the cabin was completely destroyed," said a senior police officer.

Meanwhile, police in Naivasha have expressed their concern over a spate of accidents on one section of the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu road.

In the last month, three trailers have crashed at the Chechynia trading center on the busy road leading to massive looting by residents.
