Tanzania: Police Thwart 'Super' Forex Haul in Arusha

Arusha Police in Arusha — Region have intercepted a huge consignment of counterfeit bank notes that was about to be transported to Dar es Salaam. The Regional Police Commander (RPC), Mr Liberatus Sabas, told reporters on Tuesday that the 6,140 neatly stacked fake notes of 10,000/- denomination each and with a fictitious value of 61,400,000/- were to be ferried to Dar es Salaam aboard Dar Express bus.

But the plans aborted when the company's courier division demanded to see the sealed package containing the bank notes, which the owners refused. A motorcycle taxi 'bodaboda' rider, Mr Jamal Abdul, who reported the matter to the police, was actually the person sent to collect the packaged bills at Sakina in the city's suburbs where he claimed to have found the box placedunder a parked motorbike in a secluded area.
