Kenya: Kiambu Farmers Form Co-Op to Market Coffee

More than 51,000 coffee farmers in Kiambu county have formed a cooperative to market their crop locally and abroad. The farmers from 22 coffee societies yesterday expressed optimism that the Kiambu County Coffee Cooperative Ltd will revive the sector that has been in decline since the 1990s. They called on the county government to give them loans for fertiliser.

"Coffee is a key focus for the county government and we shall make sure the county gets back to its former glory," Kiambu Deputy Governor Gerald Githinji said. He was speaking yesterday at the Kiambu County Hall after the meeting at which the cooperative was formed.
