An MP has refused to apologise for calling the Taita Council of Elders (Njavungo) fake. Wundanyi MP Thomas Mwadeghu said he will not recognise the elders because they were not democratically chosen.
"Who are they in the first place? I totally respect the elders but they should come out and tell us who elected or appointed them," Mwadeghu told the press in Taveta last Thursday. He said the group is made up of young men and women who do not qualify as elders.
