Farmers in Kafuta village in the Kombo East District, West Coast Region, informed this reporter that the cattle in the village have reduced their yields to zero by consuming all their rice in the field before harvest. Alkalo Ba-Kata Bojang Talking to this reporter during a visit to the village on Saturday, 14th December, Mbikinding Ceesay, a rice grower, revealed that she was expecting nothing less than 500 kilograms of paddy rice from her rice field, but that rummaging cattle have eaten all the un-harvested rice.
Counting on the losses she has registered, she noted that apart from her physical labour and the rice seeds, she has invested a total sum of D3, 700 which includes D1000 for the ploughing, D1, 200 for sowing and D1, 500 for fertilizer. Ebrima Kujabi said the cattle are posing a threat to food security in Kafuta village.
