Gambia: Daily Observer Editor Cross Examined

The Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Observer newspaper, Mr. Alagie Jobe was yesterday, Tuesday, 18 December, cross examined by a state prosecutor before Justice Emmanuel Nkea of the Special Criminal Division of the Banjul High Court. The Observer Editor said he knows one Madikhan Jobarteh and said he was his colleague at the Daily Observer. He said he also knows Mr. Bakary Ceesay who is his co-tenant. He said he was arrested along with him.

Editor Jobe argued that the condition of his job was to work from morning until after midnight. He denied the allegation that he works less on the day of his arrest. He said he was arrested on Friday and the paper was not supposed to publish the following day. He submitted that all the reporters at the paper were not specialized, but some were assigned officially.
