Tunisia: ANHRI Condemns Default Judgment to Jail "Al-Messa" Newspaper Head

Cairo: — The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information (ANHRI), today, strongly condemned the default judgment issued against "Nazeer Azouz", head of "Al-Messa" newspaper. The judgment was covered in Tunisian media without being announced at his trial's session over three different cases of publications. Such a judgment would be added to the series of prosecution that "Al-Messa" newspaper has been facing.

The criminal circuit at primary court of Ariana issued a default judgment to imprison Nazeer Azouz for 20 months over three different cases publications. The accusations varied between spreading false news and defamation. Azouz stated that he was surprised at the judgment, as it was pronounced without holding a hearing or without being given the right to defend himself.
