Kenya: West Pokot Locals Told to Invest

West Pokot residents have been asked to invest in the county to enhance its economic development. Governor Simon Kachapin, Kapenguria MP Samuel Moroto and his Pokot South counterpart David Kosing on Saturday asked residents to start various businesses in West Pokot to enable it compete with other counties.

The leaders were speaking on Saturday at Makutano town after opening a supermarket in the area. "Many influential leaders from this county have not set up a single structure to attract investors. They have invested in big towns far away from home," Kachapin said.

"Leaders and anybody with potential should set examples for others to follow. How can we lure investors from outside the county yet we are investing outside?"

Moroto said that if all county leaders invested in the area, unemployment will be addressed. "Most youths from this county are jobless since there are few businesses set up by private investors to offer employment opportunities," he said.
