Kenya: State to Build Sh2 Billion Stalled North Rift Roads

The government will use Sh2 billion to complete two key roads, which stalled. The Eldoret-Ziwa-Kitale road will cost Sh800 million while the Mosoriot-Kabiyet road will cost more than Sh1.2 billion.

Completion of the two roads is among demands given to President Uhuru Kenyatta by North Rift leaders when he visited Eldoret town last week. The two roads are key to the farming sector and farmers have complained that they have challenges accessing markets in Eldoret, Kitale and Kapsabet due to the poor roads.

"The government has agreed to have the two roads completed among other projects lined up in the region by the Jubilee administration," said Uhuru's Polical Advisor Joshua Kutunyi.

Speaking to the Star on the phone yesterday, he said the construction work will begin early next year. At the same time, some governors in the North Rift have planned to roll out key development projects in the new year.
