Sudan: The Arab Coalition for Sudan Has Been Following With Great Concern the Eruption of Fighting and Hostilities Between Armed Groups in South Sudan and the Continuation of Attacks in the Southern Parts of Sudan

press release

Since the mid of this month, December 2013, the city of Juba, capital of South Sudan has been witnessing a surge of violence and serious fighting between rebel armed groups from one side and the national armed forces on the other side. News reports from Juba indicate the loss of 600 lives so far, and around 800 injured individuals from the fighting. As well, approximately 13,000 have been forced to flee their homes, some of whom have taken shelter in the United Nations Compound in Juba, in search for safe haven.

The fighting also expanded to the city of Bor, located 300 Km north of Juba, which has turned Bor into a battle ground since Wednesday. The expansion of fighting to Bor is cause for great concern over the occurrence of an ethnic cleansing massacre similar to what happened in Bor in 1991. South Sudan government has declared the loss of control over the situation in Bor.
