Egypt: Electricity Minister - Ready to Implement Nuclear Power Plant

Minister of Electricity and Energy Ahmed Imam asserted that all cards are on the table regarding the implementation of the nuclear power plant, adding that Egypt might assign a company to establish the power plant whether by direct order or international tender. Such a decision would be made by the Supreme Council for the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy headed by President Adli Mansour.

The minister's statements came during a press conference held on Saturday 22/12/2013 to review the situation of the National Grid and its preparation for securing the citizens' needs during next summer.

He pointed out that the ministry is currently taking the necessary steps to secure the citizens' needs during next summer, asserting that the ministry plans to upgrade the capacity of the National Grid by 6,000 megawatts to reach 24,000 megawatts after the adding the new projects.
