Ghana: Three Institutions Receive Support From Melcom

press release

The Silver Jubilee anniversary of the Melcom Group of Companies will be marked in Ghana, next year, with a series of activities, Mr Godwin Avenorgbo, Director of Communications of the Melcom Group of Companies, has disclosed.

Mr Avenorgbo said 25 years of the Group's operation was significant, particularly in view of the Group's performance as a business entity and in relation to its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

He said the Melcom Group of Companies had made significant strides in its CSR initiatives in the form of health care delivery and the provision of educational infrastructure in various communities across Ghana.

He was speaking at a ceremony in Accra, yesterday, to hand over donations that Melcom had made in response to requests from three institutions.

The first recipient was the Headmaster of Mangoase Senior High School (SHS), Mr Agyiri Nyarko, who took a cheque of one thousand, five hundred Ghana Cedis (GHC 1, 500) in addition to bags of rice, biscuits and soft drinks.

Mr Nyarko expressed gratitude to the Melcom Group of Companies for the gesture, which, he said, was particularly significant, considering the fact that most of the appeals the school had made for support did not receive a favourable response.

He said Mangoase SHS was 22 years, this year, and that the school was only able to afford to organize a Speech and Prize-giving Day for the first time, this year, due to lack of financial resources.

Detective Police Sergeant Tallo Sulemana Abdulai, was the second to receive two Dell computers to help facilitate effectiveness and efficiency at the workplace, and enhance productivity.

D/Sgt Abudulai commended Melcom for the gesture and pledged the readiness of the Regional Police CID to respond positively to any call from the Melcom Group.

The third organisation to receive a donation was the Anchito Foundation for Education and Self-Help (AFESH), a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) which campaigns for School Health and Education under The Citizen Project.

It was presented with a health kit including toilet rolls and liquid soap.

In her remarks, Mrs Sonya Sadhwani, Director, Brand Management, Melcom Group, called for partnership between Melcom and the media, adding that the year 2014 would be a year full of activities for the Melcom Group in which the media would play a very significant role.
