Liberia: New Culture Village Envisioned - - Govt. Buys 50 Acres of Land

The Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Information Culture Affairs and Tourism has made complete payment of US$80,000 for 50 acres of land to the people of Ben Town in Marshall City in lower Margibi County.

The payment started during the administrations of former Information Ministers Lawrence K. Bropleh and Cletus Sieh with the payment of initial amount of US$30,000 and US$40,000 respectively in order to construct a new culture center replacing Kendeja Culture Center which is now been occupied by a local hotel.

However, Minister Jackson said there are some structures already on the land, adding that the Government of Liberia is committed to promoting the culture sector of the country.

Minister Jackson disclosed further that the Ministry of Lands, Mines and Energy has been instructed to start the surveying of the land, because there are unconfirmed report that people have already encroaching on the 50 acres of land.

Though the Ministry of Lands, Mines and Energy has been instructed to conduct survey on said land, Minister Jackson stressed that anyone found encroaching on said land will be dealt with in keeping with the law of the country.

Following the signing ceremony, an elder and official of Ben Town identified as Moses Moye informed this paper that they (citizens of Ben Town) were pleased for selling their land to the Government of Liberia for such a worthy purpose.
