Gambia: Ebrima Solo Sandeng's Case Mentioned in Court

Mr.Ebrima Solo Sandeng of the opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) was, on Monday, 23rd December, 2013 arraigned before Magistrate A.A. Jagne of the Brikama Magistrates' Court and charged with giving false information to a Public officer. When the case was called, Sub-Inspector Sarr, the Police prosecutor, told the Court that he is representing the state, while Neneh M.C. Cham announced her appearance for the accused person. Reading out the charge sheet before the Court, Sub-Inspector Sarr said the statement of offence is "giving false information to public servant contrary to section 114 of the Criminal Code Cap 10:02 Vol. 3 revised laws of the Gambia 2009."

He said the particulars of offence states that what the accused did on the 27 November, 2013 was to write an application for permit to the Tujereng police station to stage a social gathering with musical entertainment at the Tanji Youth Center when he was staging a political rally and knows or believes it to be false.
