Nigeria: Chan 2014 - Super Eagles Suffer Fresh Setback

The home based Super Eagles preparing for the African Nations Championship, CHAN 2014, suffered a setback on Saturday as one of its main players, Yinka Adedeji, was declared injured.

Adedeji could not start for the Eagles in Saturday's friendly against amateur Division One League side, Gokana United, after he copped a knock while warming up for the match and had to be replaced by Benjamin Francis.

The match was played at the newly built stadium in Gokana Central on the outskirts of Port Harcourt. The match ended 1-1.

While the extent of Adedeji's injury could not be immediately ascertained, team doctors are set to clarify the extent of the injury as Coach Stephen Keshi gets set to name his final squad for the championship starting next month in South Africa.

The Eagles have been grouped alongside hosts South Africa, Mozambique, and Mali, for the Championships in which Nigeria is making her debut.

Some key players, such as Sunday Mba and Kelechi Iheanacho, had earlier pulled out of the CHAN squad to sort out club issues.
