Gambia: Fajikunda Residents Decry Street - Turned Dumpsite

Garbage strewn street Residents of a neighbourhood in Fajikunda Darsilameh Ward of Serrekunda East Constituency in the Kanifing Municipality are seriously complaining about the transformation of a section of their street into a virtual dumpsite for all sorts of domestic waste and demanding for urgent action to stop this health and environmental threat. They expressed their concern to this reporter who was invited to visit the street strewn with litter on Friday, 27th December 2013. According to the residents, the waste is being dumped by both individuals living in the surrounding area and waste collection tractors.

Isatou Badjie, an old woman and a resident of the area, said they have been living in this hazardous environment for a long time now and would want the Municipal authorities to intervene to safeguard their environment as well as the health of the inhabitants in the affected street.
